Palace of the Silver Princess: Part 4 (Chen's Report)
| DM | From the report by
Patriach Alwen Chen to the Council of the Church of Valerias. United Churches
of Darokin, Darokin City, Darokin, 1001AC. |
| Chen | There followed some
small adventures in the bathroom (I don't think you want to know the details).
In short a snake was killed and a large sword was found. The sword was
subsequently used by the Alaysian, Habib, on the grounds of being a rather
nice weapon.
And so the exploration of the castle continued. The next occurance of any
import was the discovery of a small silver necklace in the shape of a heart.
With little regard for personal safety (or sense), the warror, Leanna, put the
necklace on and was mentally joined by the (almost) dead castle alchemist,
Silverheart. Leanna then witnessed the following events...
Silverheart was in the middle of creating his fireworks for the wedding feast
while the presentation of the gem was taking place. As he was working, the
castle became engulfed in a red glow. This upset the containment on his
magical explosives and they went off, destroying one part of the castle. It
also (nearly) killed Silverheart, who had a contingency plan set up. His soul
was transfered into the necklace, which was teleported to a random location in
the castle.
Having put the necklace on, Leanna was now unable to remove it and was thus
inextricably linked with Silverheart. Sadly, only Princess Argenta knew the
command word to release the alchemist's soul.
Pausing only to find a small silver statue of a Drake in a room full of
zombies, the scouting party entered the South-Eastern wing of the castle. Here
several members of the party fell into an old castle defence mechanism. A pit
trap opened up under them, drenching two of the party with oil. Fortunately,
the brand used to light the oil had long been extinguished. In fact this trap
came in useful later when the group lured some giant spiders into it. They
then fried them.
In the cold chambers of the South East wing, they encountered Rowena, the
ice-harp. Rowena explained that she was a magical construct created long ago
by a previous palace magician. She explained that the man previously seen at
the castle was Ellis, Argenta's fiance. He was a member of the Order of the
White Drake, part of the Retebius Air-Fleet. She also explained that the ruby
was actually a possible entry point for an evil demon, called Arik, who was
trapped outside reality. It's evil influence had erupted during the ceremony,
when the gem was presented to Argenta. It had turned all the occupants of the
castle to stone and surounded it with the deadly red glow, which attracted
undead and local humanoids. Apparently, an evil cleric was trying to bring
about Arik's entrance into the world. Finally, she explained about Travis, the
guard captain. He had been driven mad by the jewel and so escaped being made
into a statue. He now roamed the castle killing all he could find.
With Rowena's information and another Drake statue, the party entered the
last quarter of the lower level of the palace. There they encountered Travis
and his pet wolf. After a really quite deadly battle, he was put out of of
their misery. With trepidation in their hearts but money in their minds, the
group ascended to the castle's upper levels.
Here they were met by Duchess and Candella, two lovely ladies who were
apparently exploring the castle and had got rather out of thier depth. Of
course, our heroes leapt instantly to their aid, only to be robbed by them
some time later.
Also on the top level was the castle mage, Mirabilis. He, apparently, had
escaped the effects of the jewel which turned people to stone and offered to
join the party. Within a fairly short time, the merchant, Narond and a few
others had decided he was not what he seemed. In short, he was a doppelganger,
and was swiftly dispatched.
There followed a trip through the garden. The vampire roses caused no major
threat and so the last piece of the statue was recovered. Shortly after, the
party ran into the villainous priest, Catharandamus, a tall, dark skinned man
with a hooked nose. He was performing the ceremony to return Arik to the world
using a red crystal sword.
After a protracted battle, Catharandamus escaped, and the sword was taken.
So, believing victory was within their grasp, our scouting party continued to
explore the upper levels of the palace. Finally, they came to the throne room
and there discovered that Catharandamus had returned, more powerful than ever.
By using the statues, Icebane, the White Drake, was returned to this reality.
He wasn't much use in the fight but it was a nice gesture. After much
battling, spells, blood and general mayhem, the evil priest escaped with only
his life. Finding the red gem (the Eye of Arik) on the throne, with Argenta
and Ellis trapped within it, our scouting party used the red sword to shatter
it, reversing its malign effects.
After a few days stay, Berillia (our local church agent in the area) married
the couple. There followed a small party. |
